Aisha Obuobi-Christie Brown creative Director. (DESIGNER INSIGHT)

Aisha Obuobi launched her label – Christie Brown in 2008 and has not looked back since then. She won The Arise African Fashion Week Emerging Designer of The Year Award in 2009 and consistently strives to make her mark in the fashion industry with clothes that she’s convinced will “satisfy the modern woman’s search for a touch of Africa”. Christie Brown recently launched in Lagos at Temple Muse as part of the brand’s growing expansion plans into the rest of Africa.

She started Christie Brown in 2008. At this time, in Accra, there wasn’t much experimentation being done with African prints; the material was mostly used in very traditionally and she always visioned more interesting, modern designs in which to incorporate the gorgeous prints. She also wanted to cultivate a fresh appeal for African prints;  to celebrate them in a new way.
She studied fashion for a year, in a school operated by the acclaimed Ghanaian fashion designer Joyce Ababio. There, she was able to learn her technical skills, which means she supervises the construction of each Christie Brown garment with confidence and ensure that the pieces are always of excellent quality.

The soft launch of her very first collection took place in Ghana and the official launch of the collection was at the ‘Arise Fashion Week’ in South Africa, in 2009. she won the Arise ‘Emerging Designer of the Year’ award; she was featured on the lifestyle TV show Studio 53 and Christie Brown designs are now currently featured in internationally renowned magazines, such as ‘Grazia (UK)’,Italian ‘Marie Claire’, and Africa’s ‘Arise’, ‘Canoe’ magazines.
